East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project To Spray in Framingham on Tuesday, August 12

FRAMINGHAM - The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project will conduct truck-mounted aerosol spraying to reduce mosquito populations in Framingham on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, between sunset and 11:30 p.m.

Last week, mosquitoes in Framingham tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). Positive mosquito samples were also reported in Natick, Newton, and Holliston. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has reported no human cases of West Nile Virus in 2025.

The spraying route will target areas of Framingham located south of Waverly Street near Fay Road, Bethany Road, Winthrop Street, Hollis Street, Irving Street, and Bates Road.

Additional locations include roads in the vicinity of Claudette Circle, Amy Road, Grove Street, Bellwood Way, and Bancroft Circle. The route may include more roads than are listed here.

The product being used, Zenivex E4 (EPA Reg No. 2724-807), is applied at a rate of 1 ounce per acre. Zenivex E4 is a non-ester pyrethroid classified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a reduced-risk pesticide. Due to its low toxicity and small application amount, it poses minimal risk to people and pets. As with all pesticides, residents should minimize exposure by going indoors and closing windows if they see a spray truck approaching. The product biodegrades quickly and does not accumulate in the environment. Beekeepers do not need to take special precautions, as spraying will occur after sunset.

For questions about mosquitoes or mosquito control, residents may contact the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project at 781-899-5730.
