2014 FLOOD INSURANCE RATE MAP (FIRM) REVISION
Effective July 7, 2014, FEMA revised the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for Middlesex County. Maps can be downloaded from FEMA’s Flood Map Service Center. FEMA provided the city with a digitized FIRM data that can be accessed using the city's GIS.
CHANGE A FLOOD ZONE DESIGNATION
If you believe your property was incorrectly included in a National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), you may submit a request to change to your flood zone designation. An elevation certificate by a professional land surveyor or professional engineer may be required to determine if your property is out of the floodplain.
After FEMA reviews the map change request, it will issue a determination document, either approving or denying the map change. If FEMA grants the map amendment or revision request, the property owner may no longer be required to pay flood insurance. The property owner may send the determination document to their lender and request that the federal flood insurance requirement for the structure be removed.
REDUCE YOUR FLOOD RISK
The National Association of State Floodplain Managers created ReduceFloodRisk.org, an interactive website that aims to demystify flood mitigation for the general public so they can understand their flood risk and make informed decisions about the specific steps they can take to better protect their most valuable assets.
