From the 1920s to the 1950s, the property that is now Mary Dennison Park was operated by the Dennison Manufacturing Company as a landfill that accepted industrial and municipal waste. The property was transferred to the Town of Framingham in the 1950s and 1960s and was developed into a park with playgrounds and playing fields. In 2014, RTN 3-32015 was assigned to the site due to historic soil conditions that included the presence of lead. Since the initial reporting of these conditions, significant progress has been made in the effort to bring the site to closure. These activities include:
- 2019 completion of a Phase II - Comprehensive Site Assessment
- 2019 completion of a Phase III - Identification, Evaluation, and Selection of Comprehensive Remedial Action Alternatives
- 2023 completion of a Phase IV - Remedy Implementation Plan and New Park Design
- 2024 commencement of onsite comprehensive remedial and park construction activities
More information on the remediation activities can be found at Energy & Environmental Affairs Data Portal in the supporting documents for RTN 3-32015.
