The City of Framingham seeks to partner with homeowners and property owners to plant trees on private property within the twenty-foot setback area adjacent to the City’s right-of-way. These trees are planted at no direct cost to the owner, with the owner’s commitment to take responsibility for watering and maintaining the tree.
This is a proven and effective way to promote environmental stewardship and increase climate resiliency by improving the City’s urban forest; which is an important part of Framingham’s diverse landscape and historic character.
By utilizing the setback area, the City is able to plant the right tree in the right place to ensure that the tree has a greater chance of surviving the planting and that it will thrive in the future.”
