Downtown Revitalization

Overview

Downtown revitalization is a key focus of the Division of Community and Economic Development. Downtown planning and economic development activities are guided by the Downtown Framingham Economic Development Strategic Plan (PDF). Downtown redevelopment strategies include:

  • Outreach and Technical Assistance
  • Cultural Economic Development
  • Mixed Use Development
  • Redevelopment of Key Sites

Framingham Downtown Renaissance (FDR)

FDR is a dynamic, volunteer-based organization implementing an active Main Streets program in Framingham's Downtown. The city, through this department is integrally involved in the organization as a major stakeholder and helps fund their director position. Outreach & Technical Assistance

The department provides a number of programs to assist small businesses in downtown Framingham including:

  • Helping new businesses navigate the permit process
  • Improving the appearance of downtown businesses
  • Referring business owners to other funding sources
  • Workshops

Redevelopment of Key Sites

The division is working with the Economic Development Industrial Corporation (EDIC) to:

  • Develop plans
  • Pursue funding
  • Redevelop underutilized or blighted commercial and industrial properties
