RiverFest, a nationwide celebration, has a special local significance this year. It is
the 20th anniversary of the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Rivers’ designation
as “wild and scenic” under the federal Wild & Scenic Rivers Act. The Wild and
Scenic Rivers System was created in 1968 by Congress to preserve rivers with
outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values in a free-flowing condition
for the enjoyment of present and future generations.
