Loring Drive and Western Avenue Pedestrian Improvements

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Installation of approximately 3,000 linear feet of new cement concrete sidewalks along Loring Drive and Western Avenue from the Irving/Herbert/Loring intersection to ADESA. The project includes ADA-compliant curb ramps, crosswalks, and pedestrian signage at the Irving/Herbert/Loring intersection and from ADESA to the MWRTA/MCI Framingham bus stop.

Work will take place during the daytime. The project duration is expected to be ten weeks. Traffic management plans (TMPs) for work areas will be implemented as required to ensure the safety of residents, traffic, and workers.

GRANT FUNDING

The City of Framingham's Department of Public Works, Highway Division, received a $400,000 Complete Streets Grant from the Baker-Polito Administration to support the first of two construction phases for pedestrian and cyclist improvements on Loring Drive and Western Avenue.

Additional Complete Streets Grant Program funding will be requested for the project's second phase, including road resurfacing, rectangular rapid flashing beacons for the bus stop crosswalk, and designated bicycle lanes. The project's second phase is contingent upon funding and is slated to begin in summer 2023.

The Complete Streets Grant Program provides cities and towns with funds to support projects that provide safe and accessible options for all travel modes, walking, biking, transit, and vehicles, for people of all ages and abilities.

Sidewalk work continues. Expect minor impacts at times.
