City of Framingham SetBack Planting Program

Tree Planting Promo

Did you know the Highway Department is looking to partner with homeowners and property owners to plant trees on private property within the twenty foot setback area adjacent to the City’s right-of-way? These trees are planted at no direct cost to the resident other than a commitment by the property owner to take responsibility for watering and maintaining the tree. Throughout the years, this has proven to be an effective way to promote environmental stewardship and increase climate resiliency by improving the City’s urban forest; something that is also an important part of Framingham’s diverse landscape and historic character. By utilizing the setback area, our DPW is able to plant the right tree in the right place further ensuring that the tree has a greater chance of surviving the planting and that it will thrive in the future.

To request a planting:

  • Submit an online application.
  • Agree to and sign the appropriate stewardship documentation.
  • We will perform a site visit within one week to determine if the location is suitable for a planting.
  • We will agree on a suitable and available species and discuss any tree stewardship questions.
  • Plant the specified tree.
  • Assist with guidance and information as the tree grows

Sign-up with our online application.

*Trees will be planted depending on availability and on a first come first serve basis. For more information about our urban forestry program and the online application please go to www.framinghamma.gov/trees.
