FRAMINGHAM TO HOST PRESENTATION ON
RAILROAD CROSSING “QUIET ZONES”
FRAMINGHAM, MA –
The Town of Framingham will host a presentation on railroad “Quiet Zones” on
Monday, February 25, 2008 at 2:30 PM in the Ablondi Room in the Memorial
Building, located at 150 Concord Street.
Randall Dickson, the Program Manager for Highway/Rail Grade Crossing
Safety and Trespass Prevention with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA),
will be on hand to give a presentation and answer questions from town officials
and residents. A background on Framingham’s railroad
crossings will also be given by town officials.
FRA rules require trains approaching grade crossings to sound their
horns for 15 to 20 seconds between 96 and 110 decibels. Communities have the option of seeking a
federal designation known as a “Quiet Zone” which would preclude trains from
sounding their horns when approaching a grade crossing in their community. Members of the public are encouraged to
attend this discussion. For more
information, please contact the Selectmen’s Office at 508-532-5400.
