Overview of the Fire Prevention Office

The Fire Prevention Office of the Framingham Fire Department focuses on fire prevention activities, such as technical fire prevention issues, maintaining records, granting of permits, investigation of the causes of fires, and conducts public education programs.

Residential Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Inspections

Residential smoke and carbon monoxide detector inspections are generally conducted daily Monday through Friday as scheduled (typically in the afternoon). Inspections may be scheduled by visiting the Fire Prevention Office located at 10 Loring Drive, Framingham. Please review all information below to ensure your residence meets the requirements:

At the time of inspection, it is required that the residence has the number representing the address displayed. The address number must be affixed to the actual structure. Numbers are not to be affixed to doors. Said number shall be a minimum of 3 inches in height and shall be situated on the building so that it is visible from the nearest street or road providing vehicular access to such building.

Fire Protection System Permits

The design and modification of fire protection systems is regulated by the Massachusetts State Building Code (780CMR) and, therefore, a Building Permit must be issued prior to applying to the Fire Department for the installation/modification permit required by the Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code (527 CMR)*. Application for permit may be submitted by visiting the Fire Prevention Office located at 10 Loring Drive, Framingham.
