June 3, 2017, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Set against a backdrop of Framingham images and artifacts, this exhibit features fashions that will both please the eye and illuminate the lives of some very special Framingham women. We’ve chosen pieces that reflect the social mores, economic status and the personalities behind the ever-present decision we all face daily - what to wear?
Did you know that you can read clothing like any other historical document? It’s simply a matter of understanding the language. We’ll illustrate this language as you compare the ethereal wedding dress worn by Anna Foster Haven in 1824 with the austere gown worn by the devout Mrs. Temple on her wedding day in 1772. We’ve set the stage for you to experience the intimate setting of an 1880s salon where Framingham women entertained their closest friends adhering to the international trends that dictated appropriate dress and décor.
