This project is intended to compliment the improvements that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be making in the downtown area with the Reconstruction of Route 126 (Concord Street) project.
The work envisioned for the common includes relocating the existing railings so sidewalks can be installed along the Park Street and Howard Street sides of the park, and installing new brick walking paths, trees and lighting.
Bounded by Concord, Park, Franklin and Howard Streets, the Downtown Common represents the final phase of the Downtown Project. Work in 2017 includes the installation of new granite bollards/rail fence, granite piers and pavers, granite stairs/railings, cement concrete sidewalks, brick surface areas, new period lighting, regrading, resetting of street curb and other items to complete proposed improvements. The contractor (Argus Construction) is commencing activity on Friday, April 21 and anticipates completion by the end of July.
